Commissioner Dr. SPERANZA NDEGE

Commissioner Dr Speranza Ndege is an ICT/e-Learning specialist with practical experience in e-Learning, distance learning, training, research, online tutoring and technical advisory services. She is a Senior Lecturer at Kenyatta University with 19 years teaching experience in the Department of Literature. She is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (UK) having graduated from St. Yorks University (UK). She holds a PhD from Ghent University, Belgium; an MSC in Computer Based Information System from University of Sunderland, UK; a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Education (Hons) from University of Nairobi, Kenya. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in e-Teaching (Agder University, Norway & Global Virtual University) and a diploma in Professional Tour Operation [e-Tourism] (ICM, UK). Dr Ndege has received much training in Information Communication Technology and e-Learning (including Electronic Document Management and Website Design) and Instructional Design. She is a CISCO Academy Instructor and an Online Tutor at Kenyatta University. Dr Ndege is currently the Director of the Institute of Open, Distance and e-Learning at Kenyatta University. Previously, she has held the same position of Director for the past 7 years at the African Virtual University Learning Centre, Kenyatta University and e-Learning Coordinating Centre and respectively.

Her areas of specialization include e-Learning, e-Content authoring, online tutoring, Instructional Design, Reviewing of online course materials, Evaluator for online programmes, Information Systems, ICT, distance education, Socio-Linguistics and e-Tourism Technical Advisor. Dr Ndege is a member of several boards and committees both local and international such as: Instituional Committees include: Kenyatta University Management Board; Co-Chair for the University Strategic Planning; and the Evaluator/Resource person for Online and Distance Learning Programmes with Commission for Higher Education, Kenya; Secretary to the University's ICT/e-Learning Advisory Board, Secretary to University ODeL Board, Chairperson, ODeL Operations Board; Chairperson, University Website Advisory Board; member of the University Promotions and Appraisal Board among others; External Committees include: Interim Chairperson for East African Regional e-Learning Forum; member of Advisory Board for ICWE e-Learning Africa; Planning Committee for National Open University of Kenya; Information Technology for Learning, Education and Training (ITLET) Technical Committee for Kenya Bureau of Standards among others. She is the Evaluator/Resource person for Commission for Higher Education (CHE) for Open and Distance Learning University programmes; ICT Technical Advisor, Royal Associates; Technical Advisor, SuperLight-Africa Ltd (Tours & Travel) Company. She has facilitated many international and local conferences and workshops in ICT, e-Learning and distance learning. Dr Ndege has presented many papers in the area of e-Learning and ICT in local and international conferences. She is also involved in rural and urban community development initiatives.

Recently she got international recognition for her work in ICT/e-Learning and Distance Education and was appointed Commissioner of Broadband Commission for Digital Development.
